Chairs

Last Thursday we had Mrs Ealam and because we were learning about the plastic in the ocean last term, Mrs Ealam thought that we should recycle some old wooden chairs that were sitting in the shed and we did. We had to get into groups off four but we had to have the same sort of interest. My group chose nature. After we had chosen a theme we had to get lots off magazine images that suited our theme and then we had to cut them out. After that we had to wipe down our chair then we glued the magazine images onto the chair, we were not allowed to leave one bit of wood showing. After we had covered up all the wood, we had to cover all the magazine in ModPodge  glue then we let it dry and then we were finished.  I think my groups chair turned out  to look good. Here is my groups chair. If we did it again I would get some more birds that were flying.

Plastic Bin Liners Persuasive Letter

In Room five we are learning to write to persuade. We are also learning about the plastic in the ocean. So we did a persuasive letter for our principal to ban plastic bin liners. Our writing had to include an introduction, three main paragraphs, three reasons why, and a conclusion. Here is my writing.

10th September 2018

Dear Mrs Wallace,

All over the school we use plastic bags for bin liners. In my opinion we should not use them for bin liners. I have three good reasons why we should not use plastic bags for bin liners.

Firstly, I strongly believe we should not use plastic bags for bin liners because we usually only put dry paper and food packaging in most of the classroom bins. It is not wet materials or slimy contents going into the bin, so there is no reason for using plastic bags for bin liners.

Secondly, I think we should not use plastic bags for bin liners because it would save money. We could use the money for other things like school books or stationery. Guess what? We use two thousand plastic bags a year just at our school. THAT’S CRAZY! Think of the savings we could make. We could save at least one hundred dollars a year on plastic bags.

Thirdly, we should not use plastic bags for bin liners. Two thousand get thrown away every year. That's fifty a week and ten a day just at our school. It all goes into landfill ruining the environment. If we don’t stop plastic from polluting our earth,  the world might just be a big pile of plastic floating in space. You know that plastic is a problem and we can do something about it here at school.

In conclusion, I think we should not use plastic bags as bin liners at school because we don't need them, it would save money, and it's good for the environment. I hope that you will make some changes at this school to help the environment.

Yours sincerely,

Amelia

Two dimensional Shapes

In Room Five  we have been learning about 2 dimensional shapes. We had to make a screencastify about two dimensional shapes. We had to say what they are called, how many sides, if they are straight or curved and  how you know what the shape is.
