It’s Charlotte here from the Manaiakalani SLJ team!

Your poem was beautiful! As soon as I read the line ‘Sing-Melodies’ I thought of tūī! You have created an awesome poem here, ka pai on your mahi!! Did you find it fun? Or maybe a bit tricky?

How nice will it be to be a bird!! Do you think they have thoughts? This is something I always wonder- do animals think, and if so, what/how do they think? What are your thoughts on this??

    Ka pai, Amelia!!

    Ngā mihi nui,
    Charlotte :)

    1. Hello Charlotte! I found this fun, the tricky bit for me was trying to remember which words are verbs!I think it would be cool to be a bird, you can fly around wherever you want and a bonus is that you are small and are great singer! I reckon birds have thoughts but not lots of complicated ones like humans, mostly simple thoughts. Thanks for your comment, do you have any pets?

  2. Mōrena Amelia!

It can be quite tricky to remember that!!

It would be so fun to be a bird, you're right!! I think if I were to be an animal I'd like to be a fish though. Can zoom around in the water! Would you like to be a bird out of all other animals?

Hmm, that does make sense that they have simple thoughts. Perhaps all of the thoughts they have is about food, protection, and sleep!

I sadly don't have any pets of my own yet, but I am staying at my parents' house for the holidays and they have two dogs and two cats! So I am getting all of my pet cuddles in! Do you have any animals?

    Ngā mihi nui,
    Charlotte :)

  3. Hi Charlotte. :)

Hmmm.... I think I would be a Robin, which is a type of bird, Robins are small and they follow humans around and eat the micro sized bugs that get turned up in peoples footsteps, I have even had a Robin eat out of my hand once! Do you see any Robins or other birds around your parent's house? (Robins are small and grey/black with a white belly)

It would be really cool to be a fish as well, being able to swim really well and not have to come up for air!

What are the dogs and cats names? We have two dogs, Meg,and her pup Muddle, they are both chocolate lab spaniel crosses and are very cool.

I think I can remember you from your comments last year!

Kakaruwai (robin) are so gorgeous! They are very small and flutter about! Great pick there. You had one eat out of your hand? Were you holding a pile of bugs??

We don't get robins very often here. Mainly tūī and mynah birds!!

Meg has a puppy? How adorable! Those are great names too! The dogs are called Wicket and Cindel (from this old Starwars movie- The Battle of Endor), and the cats are called Jerry and Harry! Harry is a little ginger kitten!

Hmm, that would be the other Charlotte! I am new to Manaiakalani this raumati!

      Ngā mihi nui,
      Charlotte :)

  4. Hi Charlotte!

They are amazing, yes I was holding a pile of dirt, with some tiny bugs in it, I sat there for ages holding my hand out and then a little robin came and pecked at my hand ( eating the bugs) it was very cool!

What is a mynah bird? Tui are amazing singers!

Wicket and Cindel are cool names, so are Harry and Jerry! It would be funny if the cats were called Tom and Jerry from the TV show!

Oh my goodness, sounds like a scene from a Disney movie!

Mynah birds are very loud! I love tūī, they are my favourite birds, as well as piwakawaka!

I told that to my mum afterwards! What a missed opportunity!!

      Ngā mihi nui,
      Charlotte :)

  5. Amelia, this poem just blew me away!! I love this style and it was great to see the use of some fabulous vocab especially that last line.

You are so creative and I love how you writing has developed so much over the last couple of year.

    I am proud of you!

    Regards,

    Mrs B
