Here is my slide show.

Descriptive Calf Writing

In room 5 we are learning to describe, we had to describe some Jersey calves. We would be successful when we have used the senses: see, hear, feel, touch, smell, used present tense, written a short introduction to introduce the description, and an ending, used a variety of precise, vivid adjectives, verbs and nouns used a variety of sentences - different beginnings, structures and lengths organised my writing into paragraphs. Here is my writing.

As I approach the wide grassy paddock, the milky brown  Jersey calves are staring at me. I am wondering if they want me to go in to see them or not. I make a decision, and creep into the paddock where the calves are staring at me like crazy. Suddenly there is a loud mroo! from one of the calves and I get a massive fright. As I recover I have a look at the calves, and I see that one on the left has a patch of white on its side. Another at the back is making an extremely funny face. It has its head pointing at the sky and I start to laugh.
Slowly the calves begin to move then they start to play around me. I think they realise I am not going to hurt them. They start sprinting around me like they want me to play, so I start to sprint around with them. I play with them for awhile until they start to get tired.
Then the horrible smell of calf milk  sprints up my nose. Yuck! It reminds me what I came here to do. I pour a generous amount of warm calf milk into the trough. The calves immediately rush over and start slurping down the milk. Wow! Those calves must have been hungry.
I reach over and stroke one of the calves soft smooth fur as it is drinking. The raging sun is beating against my back so I stroll over to the branches of a big oak tree for shade. As I watch the calves run around and play the faint sound of tractor motors running fill my ears. I cannot wait to come back tomorrow and feed these cute Jersey calves.

Chairs

Last Thursday we had Mrs Ealam and because we were learning about the plastic in the ocean last term, Mrs Ealam thought that we should recycle some old wooden chairs that were sitting in the shed and we did. We had to get into groups off four but we had to have the same sort of interest. My group chose nature. After we had chosen a theme we had to get lots off magazine images that suited our theme and then we had to cut them out. After that we had to wipe down our chair then we glued the magazine images onto the chair, we were not allowed to leave one bit of wood showing. After we had covered up all the wood, we had to cover all the magazine in ModPodge  glue then we let it dry and then we were finished.  I think my groups chair turned out  to look good. Here is my groups chair. If we did it again I would get some more birds that were flying.

Maths DLO Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions.

In my maths group, we have been learning about mixed numbers and improper fractions. So we made a  Maths DLO,  we had to explain what mixed numbers and improper fractions were. We also had to include some examples. Here is my DLO.

Plastic Bin Liners Persuasive Letter

In Room five we are learning to write to persuade. We are also learning about the plastic in the ocean. So we did a persuasive letter for our principal to ban plastic bin liners. Our writing had to include an introduction, three main paragraphs, three reasons why, and a conclusion. Here is my writing.

10th September 2018

Dear Mrs Wallace,

All over the school we use plastic bags for bin liners. In my opinion we should not use them for bin liners. I have three good reasons why we should not use plastic bags for bin liners.

Firstly, I strongly believe we should not use plastic bags for bin liners because we usually only put dry paper and food packaging in most of the classroom bins. It is not wet materials or slimy contents going into the bin, so there is no reason for using plastic bags for bin liners.

Secondly, I think we should not use plastic bags for bin liners because it would save money. We could use the money for other things like school books or stationery. Guess what? We use two thousand plastic bags a year just at our school. THAT’S CRAZY! Think of the savings we could make. We could save at least one hundred dollars a year on plastic bags.

Thirdly, we should not use plastic bags for bin liners. Two thousand get thrown away every year. That's fifty a week and ten a day just at our school. It all goes into landfill ruining the environment. If we don’t stop plastic from polluting our earth,  the world might just be a big pile of plastic floating in space. You know that plastic is a problem and we can do something about it here at school.

In conclusion, I think we should not use plastic bags as bin liners at school because we don't need them, it would save money, and it's good for the environment. I hope that you will make some changes at this school to help the environment.

Yours sincerely,

Amelia

Two dimensional Shapes

In Room Five  we have been learning about 2 dimensional shapes. We had to make a screencastify about two dimensional shapes. We had to say what they are called, how many sides, if they are straight or curved and  how you know what the shape is.

The Plastic Mountain

In room five we did some writing about picture of a plastic mountain. We had to include sights, sounds, feelings and sensations. Here is my writing.

                The Plastic Mountain
As I walk through what feels like a plastic rubbish dump I feel and hear the different coloured plastic bottles crinkling underneath my muddy feet. The  disgusting smell of garbage goes rushing up my nose.
I pick up a green plastic bottle filled with  soggy mud. Mum  sorts out all the plastic bottles and puts them in giant woven baskets. Behind me there is a gigantic muddy pile of plastic bottles and bags. Dad and my brother are sorting out the clear plastic bottles.

I am feeling sad for all the marine life that this horrid plastic is killing.  I turn around I see more plastic spilling from the bridge above us. I am wondering what will happen to all this plastic. Will it go into the ocean and ruin the fishes and the homes of other marine life?

Author Visit

On Tuesday 28th of August, Jenny Sommervell  came to our school. She talked about  The Day Dad Blew Up The Cow shed and The Eel Hunt She  also read them to us.I learnt the life cycle of eels. Here are some photos of her visit.

We sorted the shapes by four sides, three sides, and more than four sides. The line of symmetry divides a shape in two.  Here is my groups work.

Sid

In room 5 we decided to do some writing about Sid the cat because we are learning to describe, use present tense, linking words and group our writing in paragraphs. Here is my writing.
Sid
Who is Sid? Sid is the curious black and white cat that comes to school. We named him after the book Six Dinner Sid because he demands food from the teachers and we think he has another home.

Sid has patches of short strands of black and  white fur and he has a smudge of black shaped like Africa on his triangular nose. He has a long skinny  black tail and short soft silky fur with swampy green eyes and  white pointy whiskers.

Sid rubs against my legs in the bus line and eats his food that Mrs Whitmore consistently puts in his small food bowl.
Sid likes to be cuddled by students of the school. He purrs as I scratch him under the chin and above his ear. He jumps up onto the milk bins and he tries to get into the classrooms.
                              That is sneaky Sid.

Infobite

Another Time, Another Place

in class we looked at a picture of some people on a cart with a castle in the distance from the mysteries of Harris Burdick, Another Place, Another Time. We had to make up a story about what happened and we had to include a problem. Here is my writing.
Another Place, Another Time
It was a misty and cloudy morning of an autumn day with a drizzle of rain, and the smell of fresh grass covered the landscape.
Tom, James, Tim and Amy were riding along a railroad on  a rocky foundation in the sea on their small cart that was controlled by sails. The cart went clickity clack, clickity clack as it rode along the railroad.
Tim, Tom, Amy and James were looking forward to going for a visit to the Queen’s magnificent castle in the hills across the sea. But when the the wind started to drop they start going slower and slower until they eventually stopped. It was getting dark and cold,  but Amy their mother had luckily come with warm blankets and some food.
They decided to sleep out in the open, so they walked to a clearing at the side of the track. Then James the father of the boys lit a fire and they settled down to eat.
The next morning it was windy so they hopped back onto the cart, and the cart flew towards the Queen’s castle as the sail bent back in the wind.
When they finally arrived at the Queen’s castle,  the Queen gave them some delicious  coffee and steaming  hot chocolate.
After they had warmed up they went to  join the party. They had a terrific time.
